Wow! It’s the end of May!!

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

So, I woke up this morning and thought to myself “This is the last week of May!” But oh no, it is not the last WEEK of May, but basically the last DAY of May!  Yikers!!!

Our family spent 10 days driving a car from Orlando, FL to Denver, CO somewhere in the middle of this month and I tell you the truth when I say that no one in their sane mind should drive 2000 miles with 3 children unless it is ABSOLUTELY necessary!!  Which this kinda was and kinda wasn’t… we did it to help my mom get her great uncle’s car back to CO, but I did volunteer.  Yep, you heard right.  I volunteered, so I can’t whine too much… but I did earn some whining rights just by virtue of living to tell the tale!!  :)

In truth, my kids did amazing… but I’m still not putting it on my top 10 list of things to do.

OK… so, with all that said, I just posted a new layout over at js.com and I thought I’d share it here too!!  :)   Of course we went to the beach while were in FL and for my land locked kiddos, it was definitely the highlight of the trip…  I’ll probably have more than a few beach layouts in the days ahead… but here’s the first:

Singin’ in the Rain

These are my boys playing in a not so warm Spring rain! I’m glad boys seem to be oblivious to temperature! They just love to play rain or shine…  Shouldn’t we be more like that?  I am definitely feeling past those run in the rain and get soaked to the bone days!!  :)   But I did have a few in my time, so… at least I can relate if I dig back into the old memory banks!  I love the free spirit I see in my boys in this photo!  I used Liv’s Simply Framed frames on this layout and the red Kamari paper… I tend to like to incorporate my journaling into the piece as a bit of artwork if I can… so the overlay of text is my journaling.  For me it’s not so much about being able to read it as it is about knowing that it’s there…

Just havin' some fun in the rain!

Excited about a new trend in the digital scrapbooking world…

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

Maybe I’m behind the times, or just too busy to be out there exploring all the digital trends, but I’m pretty excited about  a new look I see coming to the digital scrapbooking world.  I think it’s going to revolutionize the way we think about this creative expression that we’ve been calling scrapbooking… but it’s really just flat out art!  It’s the thought of making art with digital bits and pieces and photography that really gets me excited!  I can’t wait to explore more of this style of digital art and get my hands dirty {figuratively speaking of course} and create some new work!!  Here is my first dabbling…  it’s all from one kit which you can find here

A little story for you…

Friday, May 7th, 2010

I’d like to tell you a story about a girl who felt nothing but distain for the the sad, sad world of scrapbooking.  She had friends who scrapbooked, and sad to say she had far too much pride to stoop to cheesy cut outs pasted on top of square photos.  Nope.  Nothing doin’.  Then one day one of her most artistic friends introduced her to the blooming new world of papers and embellishments and she was hooked.  Still…it was a bit pricey to create that amazing scrapbook page… and it took a lot of tools and time and required space and no interruptions!!  Around this time the girl in our story welcomed her first little boy into the world… my, wasn’t he beautiful?!!  And didn’t he deserve to have the amazing story of his life’s beginning told right… with art and poetry and inspiration??  What could be done?  So she did her best and soon became buried under the pile of laundry and dishes and the day to day and before you could count to 3, there she was with 2 precious little boys and amazingly a tiny baby girl to round out the scene!

Now, at this time our heroine had been working in Photoshop quite a bit and was longing to use this powerful tool to make art and she was (sometimes) even hopping from blog to blog to see what might be done about her heart’s desire to create art.  And it was then that she (quite by accident) stumbled on the Spraground.  She was inspired and signed up right away for the first class to be had…and the rest as they say is history.

this was the first layout I did in Jessica's class in 2007!!
